The fascination of gliding

  • Glide silently through the Alps.
  • Harness the forces of nature.
  • Freedom, focus and adventure.
  • Every flight is different.

Flying without an engine

Engine off. Silence.

Once the tow rope is released, all that remains is the sound of the wind. The glider is carried by invisible currents of rising air and uses the sun’s energy to gain altitude. Instead of fuel, the weather, terrain and the pilot’s skill determine the course of the flight.

Gliding means learning to read the atmosphere. Clouds reveal rising air, mountain slopes generate thermals, and winds form waves along the Alps. Every flight is different, and every decision shapes the journey ahead.

The Alps from a new perspective

Few places are better suited to gliding than the Alps. Within minutes, gliders can reach altitudes that offer spectacular views of mountain peaks, glaciers and valleys.

For some, experiencing nature is what matters most. Others seek a sporting challenge and fly distances of several hundred kilometres – powered solely by the energy in the atmosphere. Such flights often take pilots from the Glarus region across several countries and back home again.

What unites all glider pilots is the fascination of silent flight and the unique feeling of travelling with the forces of nature.
